Read the Bible to understand God’s Message concerning God’s gift of life eternal and your purpose.

Read 2 Timothy 3:10-17 … It was as if Paul wrote, “Remember, Timothy: you learned these things from me.” Paul is stating because of the Trustworthiness of the Messenger and the Message  – continue in your conviction that this Scripture is Truth (v.14)!

We can trust what the Bible reveals about God for a variety of reasons.

First, the New Testament books corresponded with what the Old Testament already taught about important theology for the Christian faith, such as who God is, the state of creation, and God’s plan of salvation over time. The Bible is trustworthy because of the source, God breathed in what He wanted (v.16); God used the Holy Spirit to inspire 40 different writers over 1500 years to write down His words. It is important to see the source of Scripture as God and not a person because only God can tell us about God (1st  Cor 2:12-13; 2 Pet 1:20-21).

Second, the NT was written by those with either direct eyewitness to Jesus’ life or those who worked closely with Jesus’ eyewitnesses, and they were all written while at least some, if not all, of the apostles were still alive.  They were widely circulated and copied in the early Church, especially the four gospels, which gave them an inherent, authoritative nature.

Lastly, the Bible is trustworthy because it has the power of God’s Word to give knowledge for salvation (v.15)!  The Scriptures Paul is referring to is the Old Testament, these are the same Scriptures that Jesus taught from (Luke 4:4-17, 24:26-27).  Once I have received salvation – the Bible tells me how to grow in my relationship with God and fulfill the good works I was created to do.

Therefore, it is important to daily “soak” in God’s Word, the same way a thirsty plant soaks in life-giving water.  Practice the following method of reading God’s Word and meditating upon it.
